A Quick Shot about Bourbon

First, we are not lushes in my family, but we do appreciate a libation once in a while. While last week, I taste-tested champagne, my son, it turns out followed the Kentucky Bourbon TrailHearing about his trip triggered an idea to report his findings. I know so little about bourbon that I found his comments to be a useful.  Here’s what I learned:

To be Bourbon it must be:
  • 51% Corn
  • Aged for 2 years in a White Oak cask
  • 60 Proof
  • Limestone filtered, iron free water
Alex’s Favorites for Sipping

  • Woodford Reserve $30
  • Makers Mark 46  $35 (Contains extra French Oak staves- barrel slats, previously used for another spirit
  • Four Roses Small Batch $30
  • Beam – Knob Creek
    • Small Batch $30
    • Single Barrel $39
    • Knob Creek Rye $39 (51% Rye)

  1. I rarely drink bourbon but if I did, I would choose Makers Mark 46 because it was obviously named after me with the year I was born.

  2. Clearly, it was fate. I might drink a Bookers, because.... no, just because.
